Services

When someone you love dies it can be hard to think clearly. Funeral planning can be especially trying. This is where it may help to have a Celebrant come and sit with you to talk about their wishes, and yours.

I would usually come to your home, at a time that suits you. A big part of my role is to listen. You tell me about the person who has died and what you would like to include in a ceremony to remember them. Some people wish to make the funeral a celebration of a life lived. Many want laughter with the tears. Others prefer a quieter honouring and acknowledgement of loss.

I weave these elements together to create the ceremony. As an independent civil celebrant, I can incorporate prayers and blessings if you like. I will then send the draft service to you for feedback and we work together to ensure that that the ceremony feels right for everyone.

On the day I will lead the service, supporting you throughout.

Burial

The service typically takes place in a chapel, with readings, songs, hymns if preferred, and a eulogy. After the service the coffin is carried to the graveside where I lead friends and family in a final farewell.

Cremation

This usually takes place in a chapel, with readings, songs, hymns if preferred, and a eulogy. During the committal, I lead friends and family in a final farewell. The coffin is either lowered out of sight or curtains are closed around it. If you prefer, the coffin can remain where it is in the chapel until you have left.

White Flowers

Memorial

Memorials are a separate occasion, usually after the funeral. Your loved one is remembered, their life celebrated, and your loss acknowledged. These ceremonies can take place anywhere and are created in the same way as a funeral, in close collaboration you.

Scattering of Ashes

After a cremation has taken place, the scattering of ashes can be in a special event, perhaps in a place that meant something to them. In collaboration with you, I would say some appropriate words to honour them and help you to say goodbye.

End of Life Planning

Sometimes, as a person approaches the time of their death they want to make plans for their own funerals. I offer a service of visiting, listening and planning. This may be cathartic to both the individual and their family and friends, knowing that their wishes are heard to later be carried out.
